For more than 100 years, Blanchard Valley Hospital has made quality care and service excellence the top priority for patients and their families in an eight county area, including Hancock, Allen, Putnam, Henry, Wood, Seneca, Wyandot and Hardin Counties. BVH is a licensed, 150-bed acute care facility that features a full range of services, including inpatient medical/surgical care, 24-hour emergency care, outpatient surgery, and diagnostic services. The facility also has a Level 2 Special Care Nursery and an accredited Cycle II Chest Pain Center. In addition, the Donnell Patient Pavilion, which opened in February 2007, features large, all-private patient rooms and a unique "healing environment," designed to reduce stress and give patients a sense of control over their care.

Orientation
Once you are brought to your room a nurse will orient you to the room. The nurse will instruct you how to call for help with the Nurse Call Bell. Each bed is equipped with a hand-held device to use to call a nurse for assistance.
Care
Your day-to-day care will depend on the nature of your illness, injury, or surgery. You can probably expect to be awakened fairly early in the morning so that your nurse may check your blood pressure, temperature and other vital signs before your doctor visits or before you are taken to other departments for tests, surgery, or other therapy. Monitoring or administering of your medications/vital signs may also require you to be awakened during the night.
Medications
Our pharmacy is set up to handle inpatient medications only. If you fill your ongoing prescription here you will not receive the benefit of your insurance prescription plan. We apologize for any inconvenience.
All medications taken in the hospital need to be ordered through our pharmacy. If you are taking medications we don't stock, you can bring them in and we will send them to our pharmacy to be labeled and then send them back to your room.
If you have more than one physician, each physician is responsible for the medications prescribed to you. Your discharge physician will write prescriptions only for the medications he/she prescribed while you were in the hospital.
Medications you will need are ordered by your physician and filled by the Blanchard Valley Hospital Pharmacy. Ask your physician or nurse about any medications you have brought with you.
Valuables
We do our best to assist you in monitoring your personal items; however, we cannot be responsible for personal belongings. Patients are encouraged not to bring large sums of money or items of value to the hospital. If you bring something that requires safekeeping, please ask our staff to make arrangements for you to use our in-house 'safe' until you are dismissed.
Attire
Inpatients receive robes, trousers and side-tie gowns. This apparel can also be adapted for outpatient use during certain testing procedures when gowns are required.
