CT Scanning Services

Blanchard Valley Hospital offers the latest in CT Scanning technology. We now house TWO multi-slice scanners that take multiple images at one time.  This new technology drastically decreases the time it takes for a scan compared to a single slice unit. Normally, the actual scan takes about 30 seconds, depending on the anatomy that is being imaged.

Both of our multi-slice spiral scanners are connected to a TERRA RECON work station. This work station allows the images to be reconstructed into different multi-planar views. These additional views allow the radiologist to see different views of the specific anatomy that is scanned.

As a result of this state-of-the-art technology, we can scan virtually every area of the human body. Our wide range of services includes but is not limited to:

  • Common imaging - including brain, chest, abdomen, spine, sinuses and extremity imaging
  • CT Angiography - the study of certain arteries in the body
  • 3D & 4D Imaging - to provide better detail of bones and other organs
  • Cardiac Scoring - the screening of coronary arteries to detect calcified plaque
  • Interventional Radiology - includes biopsies, abscess drainages, percutaneous drainages, and steroid injections for pain management

Is a CT scan the same thing as a CAT scan?

CT (Computerized Tomography) uses X-rays to create cross-sectional anatomy images of a patient, creating detailed image of the inside of the human body. When early CT scanners were introduced, the procedure was commonly referred to as a CAT (Computerized Axial Tomography) scan. This was because at the time, scanners could only create cross-sectional Axial images. Technology has improved to the point where the axial images are taken and reconstructed into different anatomical planes. By doing this, CAT is not limited to just Axial imaging, therefore, deleting Axial from the name.
