The Blanchard Valley Hospital Laboratory has received the CAP 15189 SM Accreditation to ISO - the third lab in the United States to earn this distinction!
The CAP 15189 SM Accreditation to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is awarded by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) to laboratories that achieve the highest levels of operational systems improvement, risk mitigation, and quality management. Laboratories that receive this accreditation are certified as providing the safest conditions for their patients.
The BVH Lab worked toward the CAP 15189 SM Accreditation to ISO as part of the pilot program with Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center in South Dakota and Piedmont Medical Laboratory in Virginia, the first and second labs respectively to receive the accreditation.
College of American Pathology - The College of American Pathologists, the principal organization of board-certified pathologists, serves and represents the interest of patients, pathologists and the public by fostering excellence in the practice of pathology and laboratory medicine. The College is the world's largest association composed exclusively of pathologists and is widely considered the leader in providing quality improvement programs to laboratories around the world. American Association of Blood Banks - Established in 1947, AABB is an international, not-for-profit association dedicated to the advancement of science and the practice of transfusion medicine and related biological therapies. The association is committed to improving health by developing and delivering standards, accreditation and educational programs and services that optimize patient and donor care and safety. AABB membership consists of approximately 1,800 institutions and 8,000 individuals, including physicians, scientists, administrators, medical technologists, nurses, researchers, blood donor recruiters and public relations personnel. Members are located in all 50 states and 80 countries.
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services - The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) administers the Medicare program and works in partnership with each state to administer Medicaid, the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, and health insurance portability standards. In addition to these programs, CMS has other responsibilities, including the administrative simplification standards from the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPPA), quality standards in health care facilities through its survey and certification activity, and clinical laboratory quality standards.
Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA): The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulates all laboratory testing (except research) performed on humans in the U.S. through the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). In total, CLIA covers approximately 200,000 laboratory entities. The Division of Laboratory Services, within the Survey and Certification Group, under the Center for Medicaid and State Operations (CMSO) has the responsibility for implementing the CLIA program. American Society of Clinical Pathology - The Society is widely accepted as the most influential leader in the certification of medical technologists through its Board of Registry (BOR), an administratively independent certification agency. Initiated in 1928, the BOR prepares relevant standards and develops procedures to assure the competence of laboratory personnel. It certifies individuals who meet given academic and clinical prerequisites, as well as those who achieve acceptable performance levels on examinations. More than 394,000 certificates have been issued to date. BOR certificants comprise the bulk of the American medical laboratory work force.
National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel - The National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel, Inc. (NCA) is a voluntary, nonprofit, non-governmental organization that conducts certification of medical laboratory personnel and other credential-related activities deemed necessary to serve the patient and public needs. NCA provides national peer-developed and peer-administered examinations for medical laboratory personnel. |
