Nick Sorg has worked at Blanchard Valley Health System in environmental services for more than five years. Outside of his role with BVHS, he serves as a marine veteran and military alignment program member. Nick celebrated his birthday this fall by holding a fundraiser on behalf of the Nursing Congress Honor Flight Scholarship. He ran 40 miles on his birthday and was joined by Marie Swaisgood, the chief development officer of the Blanchard Valley Health Foundation, who ran nine miles with him. To help support this event, Nick secured pledges from 21 individual donors, and $1,400 was raised. Each year, two Blanchard Valley Health System nurses are chosen to formally represent BVHS as "Guardians" on the Flag City Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. The Flag City Honor Flight is dedicated to sending Hancock County and regional Veterans to Washington, D.C. to see the memorials built and dedicated in their honor. "Guardians" on the flights accompany Veterans to the memorials in Washington, D.C. on Flight Day, thus ensuring a safe, enjoyable and memorable experience for the Veterans. We look forward to the day Nick's gift will be put to use.
