Nissen Fundoplication/Partial Fundoplication (Toupe/Dor)
Laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication and Partial Fundoplication are done to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). In these procedures, a few small incisions are made in the belly. Working through these incisions, the surgeon wraps the upper part of your stomach around the esophagus 360 degrees for a Nissen and 270 or 180 degrees for a partial. This reinforces the valve between the stomach and esophagus so it does not open as easily to help prevent food and stomach acid from refluxing into the esophagus and causing the symptoms or GERD. After a complete evaluation we can discuss if this might be the right treatment option for you.
