2D Digital Mammography

Blanchard Valley Health System offers digital mammography across Northwest Ohio at our three convenient breast care locations – EasternWoods Outpatient Center in Findlay, Bluffton Hospital and the Ottawa Medical & Diagnostic Center.

Prior to your mammogram a trained technologist will perform a breast exam. During the mammogram, the technologist takes a digital image of your breast. The images are then viewed by a radiologist who can optimize image detail to help find any abnormalities in the breast. Mammograms can help detect breast cancers, noncancerous tumors and cysts even before they can be felt.

Mammograms take multiple x-ray pictures of each breast from two angles: top to bottom and side to side. The breast is compressed and held between two plates to ensure that the whole breast is viewed.

We use a Bella Blanket®, a protective coverlet that is placed on the mammography unit to help capture more breast tissue and to obtain a high-quality, clear image of the breast. It does not alter or distort the images, since it is invisible to the mammogram equipment.
