Genetic Counseling
Blanchard Valley Health System and The Armes Family Cancer Care Center are proud to partner with Gene Matters Genetic Counseling Services to provide independent, expert genetic counseling delivered via telehealth for our patients. This partnership allows us to offer counseling, performed by board-certified and licensed genetic counselors, to provide our patients with guidance for informed decision-making.
During your individualized consultation, your genetic counselor will:
- Review your family history and explain your risk for cancer.
- Discuss whether you are a candidate for gene testing and describe the benefits and limitations of testing.
- Facilitate the appropriate genetic test with your referring provider if you choose to proceed with testing.
- Interpret gene test results and explain what they mean to you and your family.
- Discuss how to manage your cancer risk and provide recommendations in a summary report for you and your doctor for follow-up care. Your Genetic Counseling Summary will be available on the Blanchard Valley Health System My Health Patient Portal.
