Cardiac Rehab
Recovering from a heart event can result in the need for significant lifestyle changes. Exercise, education and support in a medically supervised program can significantly improve your ability to make these changes in a timely, safe and positive manner.
Our team of doctors, nurses, and exercise physiologists at BVHS works closely with cardiovascular patients, combining lifestyle education with exercise to minimize risk factors, achieve optimal levels of health and activity, and reduce the risk of future cardiovascular conditions.
Conditions where Cardiac Rehab might be helpful include angina, heart attack, angioplasty/stent, or heart surgery.
Cardiac Rehab is a multi-phase program:
Phase I
Occurs while in the hospital and is an education program designed to help individuals begin their lifestyle changes and to help transition to an outpatient program.
Phase II
A strictly supervised outpatient program often including EKG (heart) monitoring, individualized education, and exercise programs designed to meet your specific needs. Participation is generally two to three times per week for up to 36 sessions.
Phase III/IV Maintenance
Allows for transition from our strictly supervised Phase II to a progressively non-supervised, independent program. Although independent-oriented, you will always have direct access to our knowledgeable staff for any assistance you might need.
Payment: Most major insurance carriers, including Medicare, cover the majority of the cost associated with Phases I and II. Phases III and IV are typically not covered; however, we have structured our program to provide you with these services at a reasonable cost.
The BVHS Cardiac Rehab program is located in the Heminger Heart and Vascular Center on the second floor of the Ruse Center at Blanchard Valley Hospital. For additional information, please contact us at 419.423.5153.
