Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS) is excited to welcome Bethany Uhrig, PhD, to the Psychiatric Center of Northwest Ohio. Her joining this expert team highlights BVHS’s dedication to
promoting mental health and wellness within the community.
Dr. Uhrig is a licensed psychologist with more than 10 years of clinical training and experience. She is dedicated to providing compassionate mental healthcare to her patients. Prior to joining BVHS, she practiced psychology at the Mental Health Clinic at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salem, Virginia. There, she provided psychological assessments and evidence-based individual and group psychotherapy to military veterans. Additionally, she supervised, trained, and mentored psychology interns and psychiatry residents as they gained hands-on clinical experience.
“We are proud to welcome Dr. Uhrig to BVHS,” said Kelly Shroll, RD, LD, MBA, chief operating officer of ambulatory services. “Mental health is a vital part of overall wellness, and BVHS is dedicated to expanding access to these services in our community. Dr. Uhrig’s expertise and commitment to delivering compassionate, patient-focused care will make her a valuable member of Team BVHS.”
Dr. Uhrig has extensive training and experience in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which she uses to treat a variety of emotional disorders, including a special interest in social anxiety. Using CBT, she helps patients challenge unhelpful thinking patterns and promotes adaptive behavior and coping. She also has specialized training in interpersonal psychotherapy for depression (IPT) and acceptance and commitment therapy for depression (ACT-D). IPT is aimed at alleviating depression symptoms by understanding and enhancing one's relationships with others. ACT-D employs mindfulness and acceptance techniques to build psychological flexibility, helping patients to recognize their negative thoughts without engaging with them.
