05.01.2026
Department and the Carey Police Department to host a National Drug Take Back Day event on April 25, 2026. The event was held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Harry’s Pharmacy, located within the Carey Medical and Diagnostic Center in Carey.
The drive-up, drop-off event provided community members with a safe, convenient way to dispose of expired or unused medications. A total of 9 vehicles particip
ated, resulting in the collection of 9 pounds of medication.
Proper disposal of medications plays a critical role in preventing misuse and protecting the environment. By removing unused medications from homes, the event helped reduce
the risk of substances falling into the wrong hands and prevent contamination of local landfills and water sources.
“All it takes is a few unused medications in a home to create a potential safety risk,” said BJ Pasztor, RN, chief operating officer of acute care services, and chief nursing officer at BVHS. “Events like this make it easy for our community members to do the right thing—protect their families, prevent misuse, and safely dispose of medications in a way that also protects our environment.”
All medications collected during the event were transferred to law enforcement officials for proper and secure incineration.
