Orthopedic Surgery
There is no need to live with the pain of a worn out joint. Blanchard Valley Hospital offers both total and partial joint replacements completed by experienced and skilled surgeons.
Receiving a joint replacement at Blanchard Valley Hospital is more than just a surgery. When you choose BVH you join a comprehensive program designed to help you regain your mobility and get you back to your active life. Your joint replacement process will begin by meeting with a BVHS clinical coordinator who will serve as a guide to your personalized experience. This person will help you through testing, education, rehabilitation and follow up care. With BVHS, we’re here for you every step of the way.
Before Your Orthopedic Surgery
Planning for a successful joint replacement surgery begins four to six weeks before your procedure. Steps in the planning process include:
- Meeting with your surgeon to finalize your joint replacement plan
- Meeting your clinical coordinator
- Meeting with your primary care physician to obtain any clearance or review possible complications
- Completing necessary lab work
- Sharing your medical history by completing online or in-person documentation
- Attending the BVHS total joint replacement in-person education class to learn what to expect during your joint replacement procedure and recovery
Rehabilitation for Joint Replacements
Joint replacements are unique – just like you! Every person will recover differently, and on a different timeline. However, for everyone with a joint replacement – the sooner you use your new joint, the quicker your recovery will be.
At BVHS, our joint replacement rehabilitation program begins before surgery with daily exercises to strengthen your muscles, continues throughout your hospital stay and follows you after you leave the hospital. We are dedicated to creating a tailored rehabilitation plan that gets you moving quickly and safely. Our physical therapists will work with you to practice movements that protect your new joint and enhance your recovery. We will also teach these exercises to you, so you can enhance your recovery at home!
At Home Care for Total Joint Replacement Surgery
Our total joint replacement program goes full circle, from preparing you for your procedure to ensuring you are ready to go home after your surgery. Our case managers coordinate home care service, medical equipment, rehabilitation, movement to a transitional facility and any additional care you may need to ensure you are on the road to recovery.
While joint replacements are becoming more routine; choosing to undergo joint replacement surgery can be challenging and intimidating. Blanchard Valley Health System understands and will be with you every step of the way.
