Sleep Wellness Frequently Asked Questions 

Do I need a referral from my family physician?

The Daniel J. and Maria H. Sak Sleep Wellness Center welcomes physician or self-referrals. However, you should contact your insurance company to determine if a physician referral is required for payment.

If I work night shift will I be able to schedule a sleep study?

We are able to accommodate patients who work the night shift by scheduling appointments during the day.

What should I bring to my sleep study?

Your overnight bag for your sleep study should include anything you would usually use to get ready for bed. This may include your toiletries, glasses, toothbrush, toothpaste, medication or favorite book.  

Do you have any tips for getting a good night’s sleep?

Most of us need seven to nine hours of sleep a night, but distractions and bad habits often keep us awake. The Better Sleep Council suggests the following tips for sleeping well:

  • Make sleep a priority by keeping a consistent sleep and wake schedule
  • Create a bedtime routine that is relaxing such as reading a book, listening to soothing music or soaking in a hot bath.
  • Transform your bedroom into a haven of comfort. Create a room that is dark, quiet, comfortable and cool for the best possible sleep.
  • Evaluate your mattress and pillow to ensure proper comfort and support.
  • Keep work materials, computers and televisions out of the bedroom.
  • Exercise regularly, but complete workouts at least two hours before bedtime.
  • If you sleep with a partner, your mattress should allow each of you enough space to move easily.
  • Avoid nicotine, caffeine and alcohol close to bedtime.
