Michael Lachman Memorial Certification Scholarship
The Michael Lachman Certification Scholarship was established by the Blanchard Valley Health Foundation and associates of the Blanchard Valley Health System in honor of Michael’s commitment to the care of individuals in our community and his passion for Mental Health.
Michael Lachman grew up in Elyria, Ohio. After he graduated high school, Michael attended Bowling Green State University where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. After working some odd jobs Michael decided to get back on his original path by getting his STNA certification. Michael started working at Birchaven Retirement facility while also going to get his nursing degree.
In 2002, Michael l started and fell in love with Scott whom he later married in Las Vegas Paris tower, their favorite place to vacation. Michael and Scott shared a love for animals and over their 15-year relationship they took in and cared for a wide variety of animals.
After receiving his nursing license, Michael applied to work on Orchard Hall, Blanchard Valley’s inpatient psychiatric unit. Michael was very passionate about his work on Orchard Hall. He had a real thirst for knowledge and learning; he always loved to share this with others. After 5 years as a nurse on Orchard Hall Michael applied and accepted a position as a House Supervisor. This gave Michael the ability to job share while on Orchard Hall. Michael thrived and loved the challenge. He was always willing to take on more work, which eventually led into him splitting his time between House Supervisor and Orchard Hall Educator only for a short time.
Michael enjoyed life, loved his husband and animals. He had a great sense of humor, and a hunger for knowledge. Michael was a wonderful nurse and friend and is greatly missed.
