After Baby Arrives

Newborn Nursery

To promote the mother-infant bonding process, mothers are encouraged to room with their infants. For this reason, mother/baby couplet care is provided by the same nurse each shift. However, when rest is necessary, your baby will receive loving care from our experienced nursery staff.

Kangaroo Care

Kangaroo Care is a holding technique that uses skin-to-skin, chest-to-chest contact with you and your baby. This allows parents to reunite with their baby and enhances the development of strong bonds and attachments.

Quiet time in maternity, to encourage Kangaroo Care is daily from 2:30 - 4 p.m. Visiting hours are restricted during this time as we dim the lights and provide quiet time for mom, dad and baby to bond.

Infant Hearing Screening

While a newborn baby is in the hospital, he or she will receive a hearing screening. Ask your nurse if you have questions about this screening.

Lactation Consultants

Our internationally board-certified lactation consultants are available to assist moms with all aspects of the breastfeeding process. A consultant will visit each mother during their stay, and they are available by phone before and after parents and baby return home. You are encouraged to call the breastfeeding hotline for all your breastfeeding questions at 419.423.5518 or attend one of our Breastfeeding Support Group meetings.

If you have a breast pump and need instructions on how to use the pump, bring it to the hospital when you come in to have your baby. Our lactation consults will be happy to help you learn how to use your breast pump. Additionally, breast pumps can be provided to you before discharge with insurance approval.

Dining Service

We are pleased to offer At Your Request room service dining. BVHS is proud to offer an extensive menu offering patients an exceptional dining experience. When patients are ready to make their selections, call food and nutrition and meals will be delivered to the patient’s room within 45 minutes or less. If family or friends would like to purchase a meal, guest vouchers are $6 and can be purchased in the cafeteria and at Healing Grounds Café. Both locations can be found on the first floor of the Donnell Patient Pavilion.

Call 419.423.5103 to schedule a VIP on-site tour with a maternity specialist.

If you would like, please take a video tour of our labor & delivery suites.
