Inpatient Care
At Blanchard Valley Hospital, the Medical/Oncology Unit is located on the fifth floor of the BVH Donnell Patient Pavilion. This unit provides family-based care for adult patients with various medical and oncology needs. During your cancer journey, you may require a stay in the hospital. This could be as a result of a surgery for your cancer, additional monitoring during chemotherapy administration or symptom management. If consulted during your inpatient stay, you can still be seen by your local medical oncologist.
Our day rooms, located at the end of each hallway, invite you to sit and relax. A resource center is also located in our north day room, providing educational materials from the National Cancer Institute, American Cancer Society, Lymphoma and Leukemia Society, and others. This includes information on different types of cancer, treatments, prevention and wellness.
The medical/oncology staff has many years of experience and are specially trained in treating various medical and cancer diagnoses for comprehensive cancer care. Medical and oncology-specific competencies are reviewed annually by all of our associates. Chemotherapy is administered by nurses who have completed the Oncology Nursing Society’s Chemotherapy and Biotherapy course. Each nurse has also completed training at the Armes Family Cancer Care Center as part of our Share to Care program. This program allows our nurses to be proficient at accessing implanted ports and administering chemotherapy. In addition, a clinical resource nurse is part of the medical/oncology team to ensure staff members receive the training and education necessary to provide specialized care to our patients.
Progressive treatment, personalized patient care, staff commitment and a true team environment will comfort you and your family during your hospital stay.
