Comprehensive Radiation Therapy Services at Blanchard Valley Health System
For expert cancer care, our cancer specialists at Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS) provide comprehensive oncology care, including advanced radiation therapy services. At BVHS, you receive leading-edge cancer treatments, including the nationally acclaimed standards of cancer care you expect. Because you receive your care close to home, your family and friends are close by for support.
Our highly qualified staff includes radiation oncologists, board-certified by the American Board of Radiology (ABR), who develop the treatment plan and radiation therapists, board-certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), who administer treatment. ARRT is the world’s largest credentialing organization in radiation therapy, medical imaging and interventional procedures. In addition, our team includes specially-trained radiation therapy nurses who monitor potential side effects and our full-time certified dosimetrist and physics support team assist in treatment planning and daily monitoring of our equipment. Together with our office staff, these individuals provide the knowledge and compassion that results in quality care with a human touch. Our staff also works closely with specialists within BVHS to offer other services, including nutritional support, physical and lymphedema therapy, support services and spiritual support.
We take a personal approach to your care, making sure you understand every aspect of diagnosis and treatment – and on to recovery and survivorship. A treatment plan often includes chemotherapy and radiation therapy, so we coordinate appointments across all cancer services so you can focus on getting better. We are here to support your every need, answering your questions along the way, so patients understand what to expect with radiation services at BVHS.
Radiation Therapy Treatment Excellence
Our team uses high-energy ionizing radiation to eliminate cancer cells by delivering a dose of radiation to tumors and other potentially cancerous areas. Through a series of precise treatments to these highly focused areas, radiation is delivered to cells to stop the growth of diseased cells while sparing the surrounding healthy tissue.
Linear Accelerator at The Armes Family Cancer Care Center
|
The Armes Family Cancer Care Center uses highly sophisticated imaging, computer planning and treatment delivery systems called linear accelerators to ensure the safety and accuracy of radiation therapy treatment – with state-of-the-art precision and speed. Our systems include real-time Cone Beam CT imaging capabilities, so our team can adjust and follow the most precise treatment protocols for the following services:
- intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)
- prostate cancer radioactive seed implants
- stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT)
- stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS)
- 3 dimensional (3-D) conformal radiation therapy
The actual exposure time during treatment lasts only a few minutes, and in most cases, patients can resume normal activities after treatment is complete. It is normal to experience fatigue during the treatment process since your body uses its extra energy to rebuild normal healthy cells.
In some cases, patients may experience temporary side effects. The extent of side effects depends on two things: the type of cancer and the dosages of radiation received during treatment. You should tell your physician about any side effects, even if they are minor.
Team Experience and Expertise - Always With a Patient-First Approach
Working together with an entire cancer care team for a multidisciplinary approach, our board-certified radiation oncologists, Dr. Stephen Lutz, and Dr. Ankit Modh, provide full-time care for patients needing radiation therapy. Together, the team develops a comprehensive and individualized treatment plan, closely monitoring patients throughout the treatment process and providing ongoing follow-up care. Additionally, through BVHS’ membership in the Mayo Clinic Care Network, our providers have access to the most advanced resources and clinical expertise of internationally recognized Mayo Clinic.
