Maternity Services

Our maternity staff believes that childbirth is a magical event. We are dedicated to creating a unique birthing experience in a family-centered environment. From traditional delivery to high-risk pregnancy, BVHS is prepared to provide exceptional services to exceed your expectations.

It is important to know your estimated due date in order to help plan for the baby's birth.  Try our Due Date Calculator below.

Women's Services to Prepare for the Birth of Your Baby Include:

Childbirth/Prenatal Education

Be prepared for the arrival of your new family member by learning what to expect during your pregnancy and labor, as well as how to care for your new baby. We offer classes in both Bluffton and Findlay.

Pre-registration

You may pre-register by picking up your form at the hospital or your physician’s office, requesting that one be mailed to you, or you can register online now!

Maternity Services from Labor and Delivery to Beyond Include:

LDRP Rooms (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum)

Both Blanchard Valley Hospital and Bluffton Hospital offer spacious LDRP rooms that allow you to remain in one birthing suite during labor and the birth of your baby. You are welcome to have a family member or friend in the LDRP room as your support person - we encourage you to take an active role in the birthing experience.

Anesthesia Options

Laboring mothers are offered a range of options for pain relief. Options include comfort measures, hydro-therapy, pain medications, epidurals and spinal anesthesia.

Newborn Nursery

To promote the mother-infant bonding process, mothers are encouraged to room with their infant. For this reason, mother/baby couplet care is provided by the same nurse each shift. However, when rest is necessary, your baby will receive loving care from our experienced nursery staff.

Lactation Center

Our international board-certified lactation consultants are available to assist you with all aspects of the breastfeeding process. A consultant will visit you during your stay, and they are available to you both prenatally and after you have returned home. You are encouraged to call the breastfeeding hotline for all your breastfeeding questions at 419.423.5518 or attend one of our Breastfeeding Support Group meetings.

Pediatric Hospitalists

BVHS is proud to have specially-trained pediatric hospitalists available 24 hours a day for high-risk deliveries, as well as any situation when your baby might need specialized care.

Visitation

We understand that the birth of your baby is a special time that you may wish to share with family and friends, however we ask that you limit your guests, including your spouse or significant other, to three or fewer during labor and delivery.

At Blanchard Valley Hospital, each person visiting during your time in our Obstetrics department will need to use the intercom located outside the maternity area to ask the staff for entrance into the unit. Once they have entered, they will be given a badge to wear while they visit. Your safety and the safety of your baby is our top priority.
